This workshop is for breast cancer warriors, survivors and those currently undergoing treatment for breast cancer. Using a blend of somatics, soma yoga and classic asana - we will will focus on the upper half of the body. This will include, but not be limited to: chest muscles, upper back, head & neck, shoulder/arm and how they relate to one another. And then how all that connectivity comes to play in the daily challenges and joys of surviving(fighting) cancer. The blend of these exercises helps to move, squeeze, twist and release the lymphatic, muscular and nervous system.
This class will be applicable if you already have or been diagnosed with lymphedema. Lymphedema is not a “forever” diagnosis - these practices and movements will help to alleviate the pressure and pain. Many of these practices will be floor based with twisting, props and hands on assistance
Length of workshop: 2 hrs
I am Katie! I am a certified personal trainer a 500hr Soma yoga teacher and I have been working on the fitness industry for over 15 years. In that time I have worked with many women who have/had breast cancer. When working with them, one major feature stands out - the limitations often seem and felt through the affected side(s). These limitations do not need to remain. With the combination of somatic techniques, neuro-muscular re-education, and dynamic movements - the connection from the brain to the muscles can reform.
